The \u00ab Edit \u00bb menu is available in the complete version of&nbsp;Xper2.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"xper2.bdc.creer\" id=\"xper2.bdc.creer\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"soustitreFAQ\">How to create a new Knowledge Base (KB)?<\/h3>\n<p>In order to create a new KB, click on&nbsp; \u00ab New&nbsp;base \u00bb in the menu \u00ab File \u00bb. A window will invite you to enter the name of the KB. Once entered, the Edition by descriptors module will automatically be opened. (cf. <a class=\"xper2\" href=\"#caracteres\">Edition of descriptors<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"note\">N.B. You can only create new KBs on the complete version of&nbsp;<\/span> Xper2!<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"xper2.bdc.ouvrir\" id=\"xper2.bdc.ouvrir\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"soustitreFAQ\">How to open an existing KB?<\/h3>\n<p>Click on \u00ab Open an existing base \u00bb in the menu&nbsp;menu \u00ab File \u00bb. You will be invited to browse your hard disk in order to select the KB in a \u00abxpd\u00bb format.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"xper2.bdc.pls\" id=\"xper2.bdc.pls\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"soustitreFAQ\">Is it possible to open several KB at the same time?<\/h3>\n<p>No, it is not.&nbsp;Xper2 can only work if a single instance of a KB. This means that you cannot open or create a KB if tjere is one already open.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"xper2.enregistrer\" id=\"xper2.enregistrer\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"soustitreFAQ\">How to save a KB?<\/h3>\n<p>If it is a new one,&nbsp;\u00ab Save \u00bb and \u00ab Save as \u00bb does the same. You will be invited to browse your hard disk and choose a file name. The extension (xpd) is automatically created. If you base exists already, \u00ab Save \u00bb will save your base on the same file. \u00ab Save as \u00bb will allow you to save your base under another file name.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"note\">Note,<\/span> If you close your base or the software by mistake, a textbox will invite you to save your base.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"xper2.fichiers\" id=\"xper2.fichiers\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"soustitreFAQ\">Which files are created when saving a KB?<\/h3>\n<p>When a KB is saved in Xper2 format, 4 files are created:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"listeU\">\n<li class=\"liste\">\u00ab xpd \u00bb : the descriptive system + the list of individuals (format xml)<\/li>\n<li style=\"background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\" class=\"liste\">\u00ab xpg \u00bb : the groups of variables (text format) &#8211; deprecated<\/li>\n<li class=\"liste\">\u00ab xpr \u00bb : relationships among variables (text format)<\/li>\n<li class=\"liste\">\u00ab xpw \u00bb : weight (texte format) &#8211; <span class=\"note\">not used for the moment<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"liste\">\u00ab xpx \u00bb : item x descriptors matrix (text format)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The folder \u00ab images \u00bb is created if it does not already exist. It is used to stock the images illustrating your KB.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"note\">N.B. when you create a KB, save it before adding imagesin order to have the&nbsp;<\/span>\u00ab images \u00bb folder created. The descriptors placed at the top of the list are those that discrimniate more item, but are not necessarily the simplest to fulfill !<\/p>\n<p>There are three possible sorting methods :<br \/>\n&#8211;&nbsp;XPER original sorting<br \/>\n&#8211; Sokal &amp; Michener sorting<br \/>\n&#8211; Jaccard sorting<\/p>\n<p>These measures are quantitative assessments of the ability of a descriptor to distinguish between taxa. Here are the formulas and references for these measures. The three discriminatory power result of the sum, for all pairs of taxa, of a measure of dissimilarity between taxa for which the descriptor is evaluated.<\/p>\n<p>For the Xper discriminatory power, the dissimilarity between two taxa i and j for a descriptor is either 0 or 1 depending on whether there are descriptor states in common  or not. In the case of discriminatory power based on the Jaccard dissimilarity index or on the Sokal and Michener index, the dissimilarity between two taxa i and i for a handle is between 0 and 1 and depends on the number of states of the commondescriptor.<\/p>\n<p>We can notice that:<br \/>\nn11 states of descriptors present, i.e. possible for both taxa<br \/>\nn10 states of descriptors present for only the first taxon<br \/>\nn01 states of descriptors present for only the second taxon<br \/>\nn00 states of descriptors impossible for both taxa<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; the dissimilary according to Xper [Lebbe, 1991] is based on incompatibility between descriptions. The descriptors that belong to this group will then be underlined in blue.
