The LIS is part of the Systematics, Evolution, Biodiversity Institute (ISYEB, Visit the website of the UMR 7205) and gathers biologists and computer specialists grouped together around a common ambition: the development of Interactive Identification Keys (IIK).
The originality of this consortium is based on a strongly methodologically oriented approach of systematics and data processing.
Our main research axes are:
- modelling concepts, knowledge and practices in Taxonomy-Systematics (formalization, knowledge representation);
- processing data on specimens and taxonomic knowledge (databases and knowledge bases);
- conception and programming of algorithms to analyse taxonomic descriptions and to create classical and multi-access keys;
- phylogeny and biogeography.
