Scientific goals
The first goal of the LIS, the methodological research in Systematics, is to provide a formal (non ambiguous) description of the structures, concepts and relations used in Systematics. Then, we have developped a formalism for the taxonomic description and for the identifcation which can be extended to phylogeny and biogeography.
The second one, the methodological research in computer science, focus on databases, knowledge learning and representation, classification sensus largoand algorythmics.
Lastly, methodological researchs are validated by informatic implementations on particular biological cases.

The LIS is hardly involved in several national, european and international research programs.

And the LIS has also developped many partnerships with foreign collaborators leading to specific applications which are all disposable for the whole scientific community.
